i can't vote. but it does concern me.

The American election is an odd occurrence.
300 million people have the opportunity to vote and decide who will be the most powerful human being on the planet for the next 4 years.

this choice has very broad reaching effects, felt throughout the world. often the consequences are felt more keenly far outside the borders of the States.

The world watches in suspense to see if the American public will redeem itself. we still remember the potential missed 8 years ago by Al Gore not being victorious. we see the damage caused by not enabling John Kerry to change direction. We hope that Americans will look inside and beyond their borders and realize that their choice on November 4 will in a very real way be a life and death decision for hundreds of thousands of members of humanity.

I can't vote. But i can voice my opinion. I am changing my profile picture to that of Obama, and i hope and believe in a progressive, sound and compassionate American administration that the world and Americans can be proud off.

I hope you will join me and make your profile picture a visual ad for world peace, progress and hope.

Hear, hear. :) It is scary what a big influence one country can have. But it is important that everyone should be aware that every vote really does count.

Refreshing to read this thread.  I'm from the Netherlands so I can't vote either, even during the  time Ispent in the USA as an 'alien' resident (don't you love that title (lol!) I couldn't vote.
Back here I have said many times to my friends, it's actually strange that we do not have some kind of imput in this, since the US goverment seems at times to take on the role of ruling the world.  But most of the time my friends shrug their shoulders and do not seem to care too much.
Well I do, I have lots of people living over there that I love deeply, I think the US is basiclly a great country and in desperate need of change.
So I will pick up the icon here, not just now, but in a few days.
Thanks friends.

I can and did vote for Obama with an early mail in ballot. Some Americans are not swayed by the politics of war and intolerance.  It's ironic that “the party that freed the slaves” as the republican’s bill them selves, is second place and decades late with a female vice presidential candidate offering. Not to mention they have never fielded an African American presidential or vice presidential candidate. I expect to see positive changes in everything from alternative energy to foreign policy.

hi :franc … jodi sent me here! I've been supporting Obama since I first saw him here in Portland, OR back in September of 2007. He is from my home state of Illinois and my entire VERY LARGE family (except for one brother) are backing him. I have already voted for him … I turned in my “vote by mail” ballot yesterday. It felt so great to drive by the ballot box and drop it in … knowing that my vote amongst the millions is going to be making change happen here and around the world. I had goose bumps and had to wipe tears as I drove away. There was actually a line of cars … waiting to drop in their ballot and we were honking and raising fists in salute and victory!

I wrote this blog yesterday after doing some canvassing with my daughter: http://artyst51.gaia.com/blog/2008/11
